Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club is home to golf celebrities Billy Joe Patton, Joe Cheves, Matt Peterson, Dana Radar and others. We also host important regional golf events, including the US Amateur Qualifying Tournament and CGA events.

In 2003, this course was meticulously retrofitted to Ross' ingenious 1929 design. In typical Ross fashion, bunkers are aggressively positioned to create challenging shot angles. Every hole accommodates and challenges players of all skills with five sets of tees.

By walking the course, golfers can thoroughly appreciate the astonishingly beautiful design. Discreet, paved cart paths allow easy use of electric cars. The course turf is hand-crafted to ensure consistent and competitive play throughout. It meets all USGA standards. Each green is surfaced with A-4 Bent Grass; tees and fairways with groomed Bermuda grass.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Bruce McKinney and David Day for their Hole in Ones. Bruce aced the 205 yard 15th hole at Eagle’s Nest CC in Virginia. David scored one on hole #13 here at Mimosa Hills.

Mitchell McGlamery and Walton Stephens are continuing their good play from Spring to Summer. Mitchell won the Big I Regional Qualifier at Rock Barn with a score of 70. He tied for 1st in the Optimist International Qualifier with a score of 70 at Catawba CC. Mitchell and Walton qualified for the N.C. Junior Championship with scores of 74 and 76 respectively at Statesville CC. We are very proud of these two young men as they represent Mimosa Hills.

Players from White tees will always beat players from Blue tees if they play to their handicaps. Different tee adjustments must be made to equalize match.

Golf Course
By Dan Winters

The greens healed up very quickly since the aerification, topdressing and deep verticutting in May. Since finally getting a little rain the Bermuda grass is doing better. We have fertilized the tees again to help recovery from the Spring dead spot disease. We will experiment with some different fungicides this Fall to see if we can’t obtain some control.

Other on going maintenance includes our routine mowing, bunker edging and adding sand. Overall the golf course is in excellent shape due to the hard work by our maintenance staff. My compliments to Rick Morrow and the guys. I must add that our landscaping has never looked better thanks to Horticulturist, Chad Wilkes.

By request of membership and Greens Committee Chairman Gary Julian we are putting extra man hours towards better bunker conditioning. It is very disheartening to see the bunkers perfect in the morning and by the end of the day they look terrible. We need everyone to leave a bunker as good as or better than before you entered it. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Fifth Annual
Joe Cheves Junior Invitational
September 8-9, 2007

Joe Cheves Junior Volunteers Needed
The Joe Cheves Junior Invitational is a unique opportunity for Mimosa Hills to increase the prestige it has enjoyed over its storied history. Having top junior players participate in tournament action at Mimosa can have long-lasting and positive impact on the club's already outstanding reputation. Our great golf course, Mimosa’s friendly hospitality, and the tradition and prestigious history of the club go a long way in the success of this tournament. Need club members involved in helping run the event. If you would like to volunteer, please let Dan, Jimmy or Zack know if you can work Sat. or Sun. or both. We can use your help and enthusiasm.

Become a Joe Cheves Junior Participating Sponsor
EAGLE: $300; BIRDIE: $200; PAR: $100; Partner: $50
Your sponsorship goes towards making the Joe Cheves Junior one of the premier junior events in the Southeast. The fifth annual tournament will draw over 90 of the best junior golfers in North and South Carolina. Your sponsorship also perpetuates the Joe Cheves Junior Scholarship Program. The Eddie Erwin Memorial Scholarship goes to a deserving Burke County boy, while the Mimosa Hills / Dan Dobson Scholarship is presented to a Burke girl. Joe Cheves Junior is proud to offer these scholarships. We hope you’ll decide to be a sponsor at any one of the four levels.

THANKS for your help
