The Joe Cheves Junior Invitational @ Mimosa Hills was established in 2003. Since that time it has played host to some of North and South Carolina's top junior golfers. The Joe Cheves competition date will always be the weekend after Labor Day.

The JCJI was conceived to not just be another junior golf tournament. It's not a first-come, first-served entry process. The concept was to hold an event that players had to earn their way to play. In essence, bringing together an elite field. A set of qualifying criteria was formed with help from the Carolinas Golf Association and the Tarheel Youth Golf Association.

The idea was presented to the Mimosa Hills Board of Directors in February 2003 and they unanimously endorsed the tournament. The only thing the Board insisted was that the official name of this event be: The Joe Cheves Junior Invitational @ Mimosa Hills.

Joe Cheves was head pro at Mimosa Hills from 1951-1981. He's a member of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Carolina PGA and Carolinas Golf Halls of Fame. Cheves, who passed away on July 31st, 2007, at age 89, loved Mimosa Hills with all his heart and soul. He was a strong advocate and supporter of junior golfers for 70 years. We hope you have the chance one day to be a player at the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational @ Mimosa Hills.

2005 Final Scores (Sept. 10-11)

On the strength of first round 5-under 67, Daniel Meggs of Charlotte, NC held on to capture the third annual Joe Cheves Junior Invitational @ Mimosa Hills on Sept. 10-11. Meggs' first round 67 included birdieing his first four holes and five of the first seven. All total his round consisted of six birdies, one eagle, three bogeys and eight pars. In the final round Meggs had to hold off a hard-charging Niklas Peterson, also from Charlotte. With nine holes to play, Meggs had a four-shot cushion and he pushed the lead to six after birdies at 10 and 11. A Meggs double-bogey at the par-4 15th combined with a Peterson birdie shrunk the lead to three shots with three holes to play. Meggs finished 4-4-4 for 74, while Peterson went 4-3-3 for 72, giving Meggs, a sophomore at Butler High School, the one-shot victory. John Isenhour of Hickory, NC (70-73=143) and Jack Fields of Southern Pines, NC (71-72=143) finished one-under for the tournament to tie for third. Chad Day of Raleigh, NC shot even-par (69-75=144) to finish fifth.
