Donald Ross, the famed Scottish-born golf course architect, created Mimosa Hills in 1929, taking painstaking advantage of Morganton's natural beauty and phenomenal panoramic mountain views. We completed a thorough restoration of the entire course in 2002-2003, preserving the integrity of his design while keeping an eye on the future of the game. Visit Mimosa Hills — where history and tradition meet timeless perfection. The Blue Ridge Mountain skyline that captivated Ross provides one-of-a-kind backdrops for golfers. Seven holes lead back to the clubhouse. Aside from our reputation as one of the finest walking courses still in operation, Mimosa Hills offers sport and fitness along with dining and leisure. Donald Ross was a genius for sound routings, with very little walking required from one green to the next tee. He would commonly route his short par-4s on uphill ground. Other trademarks included greens that invited run-up shots, but with deep trouble over the green - usually in the form of fallaway slopes - to punish the overly bold golfer. Ross was also not averse to placing cross bunkers in play to punish the topped shot - off the tee, or some 50 yards short of the green. Mimosa Hills is no exception.
